Grand Homme Wins Again Under Chris Anderson Grand Homme led the entire way to win at the Gold Coast in a Class 3, 1800m yesterday. GrandHomme was impeccably ridden by top apprentice jockey Alex Hearne, but he certainly proved his staying power, toughness and speed to win in a dead heat with Gold Coast horse Attica.

andersonandhearnAlex Hearne, a top apprentice from Western Australia, has moved to the other side of Australia for new opportunities in horse racing. In Western Australia, Alex had 260 race rides (123country, 116 provincial and 21 metropolitan) and has ridden 35 winners.

Alex rode a superb ride on winning horse Grand Homme, at the Gold Coast recently for Anderson Racing.

"My wins have all been over in W.A., so it felt great to have a Queensland winner" said Alex.

While Alex is indentured to horse trainer, Chris Anderson, he is also ready to get more rides under his belt under other leading horse trainers and has already been given rides by a number of trainers in his stay so far. Alex's keenness and dedication means that he is also going to travel to Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville on a weekly basis to secure rides as well.

"I already ride for quite a few of the leading trainers at Eagle Farm and am keen to get as many rides as I can under my belt.

There is certainly a shortage of apprentices claiming 3kg who can ride at 50kg in Queensland at present.

"I only weigh 49kg and have no trouble riding 50kg. I can also use the whip left and right hand" said Alex.

Alex looks set to have a very exciting future in Queensland horse racing.
